Misty Mountain Trophy Hunting offers our hunters the best of both worlds. They can choose a wild free-range hunt on our 1,500 acres of Quality Deer Managed property for deer, bear, turkey, and coyote or a combo package of these hunts. Hunters can also choose to hunt monster whitetails and big bull elk on our 610-acre Trophy Hunting Preserve. Some hunters choose to do both and take advantage of all the opportunities here at Misty Mountain.

For more detailed information on either of these great hunting opportunities, click on one or both of our hunting options below. For general hunt information, continue down this page or you may click on the links below "The Hunt" in the left navigation bar.

Orientation, Safety and Hunter Prep

The staff at MISTY MOUNTAIN will conduct a mandatory orientation, safety and preparation session with ALL hunters during the afternoon or evening prior to your first hunt. Do's, don't's, safety issues, rules, hunter etiquette and harvest information issues will be discussed. Liability, safety and hunting guideline forms must be completed and signed at this session by all clients prior to going afield. This get-together also provides a great opportunity to get any additional questions answered.

Safety belts and harnesses are required to be worn by all hunters at all times in any elevated stand. They are absolutely required, so don't forget yours. NO SAFETY STRAP OR HARNESS, NO HUNT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Archery and Rifle Ranges/Shooting Skills

MISTY MOUNTAIN provides elevated and ground-level archery shooting areas, as well as a rifle range to shoot in or check your gun. All hunters are required to shoot their bow or gun upon arrival to check for accuracy. We do not tolerate sloppy shooting skills. Every effort will be made to recover wounded game regardless of how long it takes. Game recovery is very important to us, so we take it very seriously. Please see the following "Wounded Animal Policies" in effect here at Misty Mountain.

Wounded-Animal Policies

All hunters are counseled prior to their hunts to take only high percentage shots. We expect hunters to only take shots (bow or gun) that are highly likely to put the animal down and keep it down. We cannot and will not tolerate sloppy or hap-hazard shooting. We're very proud of the quality of game we have here at Misty Mountain and have therefore incorporated the following two wounded-animal policies. No exceptions to these policies will be made:

Trophy Preserve Wounded-Animal Policy

All hunts on our 610-acre Trophy Preserve have a harvest-or-wound policy indicating that once a hunter either harvests an animal or draws blood (wounds an animal), that hunt is ended. Although strict, this policy emphasizes the importance of the quality of the shot and protects the integrity of these hunts. Preserve animals are truly trophy animals and have taken a great deal of time, effort and expense to produce. Therefore, we counsel our clients to exercise great judgment in using their bow or gun of choice, knowing that only wounding an animal effectively ends the hunt whether the Preserve animal is recovered or not.

Wild Free-Range Wounded-Animal Policy

A hunter will not be permitted to attempt to harvest anther animal until the first animal is recovered and tagged or the owners at Misty Mountain are convinced the wounded animal cannot or will not be recovered.

Arrival, Check-In and Departure

All hunters should plan on arriving at MISTY MOUNTAIN at 12:00 noon the day of their scheduled hunt. This will allow time for all hunters to shoot their bow or gun. Rooms will be ready for occupancy by 2:00 p.m. Departure time is no later than 11:00 a.m. the last day of the hunt. Departing hunters may stay for lunch the last day but must be out of their rooms by 11:00 a.m. so we can prepare the rooms for arriving hunters.

Tips and Gratuities

Outfitters are often asked by their clients about how much they should tip their guide and, if applicable, their cook, camp manager or room service personnel. This decision is really up to the client and depends on the service they have received. We offer you a guideline of 5% to 20% of the total cost of your hunting package for your guide.

Remember, although the life of a guide may seem very appealing to most, there are long, long days from before daybreak to late evening tracking game, moving stands, scouting, caring for game harvested, and hours of preparation prior to your arrival. Although no outfitter can guarantee everyone will harvest an animal, we at MISTY MOUNTAIN will do our very best to provide you with an enjoyable experience and focus on the details to put you in the best position to experience a successful and rewarding hunt.

For the cook and/or room service personnel, a gratuity in the $25-$50 range is considered sufficient. Again, these are merely guidelines offered to you in response to frequent client inquiries.
